Michal Grinstein-Weiss and Dan Ferris Recipients of Washington University’s Outstanding Faculty & Staff Mentor Award
Michal Grinstein-Weiss, PhD, MA, MSW, Director of the Centene Center for Health Transformation and Dan Ferris, Director of Policy & Planning were selected out of nearly 100 nominations as winners of the 2020 Washington University in St. Louis Outstanding Faculty Mentor and Staff Mentor Awards. Given by Washington University Graduate Student Senate, a group of graduate students in both master and doctoral programs at the university whose mission is to represent and advocate for the interests of graduate students.
Ferris oversees the education and training initiatives at the Social Policy Institute at Washington University and serves as Assistant Dean for Policy Initiatives at the Brown School. He also is responsible for a range of projects and initiatives related to health, the U.S. healthcare system, and the social determinants that drive health outcomes. Dan is especially interested in advancing policy research that identifies drivers of healthy communities, improved access to services, and health equity.
In addition to her role at the Centene Center, Dr. Grinstein-Weiss is the Shanti K. Khinduka Distinguished Professor and Associate Dean for Policy Initiatives at the Brown School, the founding director of the Social Policy Institute at Washington University in St. Louis, and a nonresident senior fellow in Global Economy and Development at the Brookings Institution. She received her PhD in social work from the Brown School, master’s in economics from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and her master’s in social work and Bachelor of Arts from Haifa University, Israel. Dr. Grinstein-Weiss has also been honored with many esteemed awards including the Society for Social Work and Research’s Deborah K. Padgett Early Career Achievement Award.
