The Centene Center for Health Transformation ‘Barriers To Better Health’ Video Wins Award

A video created by the Centene Center for Health TransformationTM highlighting the crucial role played by social determinants of health (SDOH) in personal well-being has won Bronze in the Spring 2018 Digital Health Awards.

The short-format video, produced through the Centene Center’s industry-academia partnership, sets the stage for current and future investigation into the impact of social determinants on health behaviors and health outcomes. It features inspiring dialogue delivered by panelists at an SDOH forum at the Centene Center, coupled with compelling images of life barriers confronting economically disadvantaged individuals.

The Digital Health Awards are designed to recognize quality digital health resources for consumers and health professionals. Sponsored by the Health Information Resource Center, Digital Health Awards is the largest program of its kind in the U.S.

“It is gratifying to see a product of our three-year research collaboration recognized among other influencers in the healthcare field,” notes Karyn Quinn, head of research development at the Centene Center. “The video depicts the real life issues facing many Americans; you can’t help but feel motivated to be a part of the solution.”

Researchers at the Centene Center have already delivered some informative results rooted in SDOH. They completed several in-depth studies focused on engaging and supporting Medicaid members through Envolve’s health coaching programs. Significantly, they found that members who reported facing life barriers or those with unmet basic needs were more likely to have negative health outcomes.

The Centene Center’s research findings also validate that addressing SDOH is essential for more effectively improving individual and community health. By creating environments that empower people with the resources they need to break through life barriers, we will enable them to better manage their own health. This vision aligns squarely with the company’s mission of improving the health of our communities, one person at a time.
